media-detail-hero__description\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<strong>Explanation:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/eclipses\/future-eclipses\/total-solar-eclipse-on-august-12-2026\/\" rel=\"noopener\">On August 12<\/a>, the Moon\u2019s shadow reached out to touch our fair planet. Beginning in the Arctic Ocean, it swept along a narrow track that led the dark lunar umbra across parts of Greenland, Iceland, the Atlantic, Portugal, and <a href=\"https:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/fap\/ap260813.html\" rel=\"noopener\">northern Spain<\/a>. And for a moment, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artic.edu\/artworks\/27992\/a-sunday-on-la-grande-jatte-1884\" rel=\"noopener\">denizens of Earth<\/a> who found themselves with clear skies under the shadow of the Moon could witness a total solar eclipse. After dodging the weather by sea and making a landing along Rype Fjord on the Greenland east coast (at 71.07055N, 27.71252W), this hard-won snapshot was captured at 17:33:26 UTC. That\u2019s near the initial reach of clearing skies along <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/earth\/earth-observatory\/stops-along-the-path-of-totality\/\" rel=\"noopener\">the path of totality<\/a>, so the image is likely one of the first unobstructed views of the <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/eclipses\/geometry\/\" rel=\"noopener\">totally eclipsed Sun<\/a>.
